Goldsby Roof Repair for the Piece That Failed

Repair replaces the failed piece: a shingle run, a valley, a pipe boot or a flashing joint. The rest of a sound roof stays put.

Name the failed piece — (000) 000-0000
A lifted shingle at a pipe boot on an asphalt roof

Repair is a piece, not a whole roof

A repair is the right call when one part failed and the field around it still holds. A pipe boot that cracked, a valley that opened, a run of shingles the wind lifted, or a step-flashing joint that pulled out of the wall. If the whole field is brittle, a repair is a short delay and the honest answer on the phone is replacement.

We will say that on the call if the description already sounds like a tired roof. There is no reason to sell a patch that the next rain will walk around.

What the repair scope names

The list names the piece: which slope, which boot, which valley, how many shingles come up, and whether the deck under that piece is in question. It names the flashing that has to be rebuilt so the new piece ties into the old field. It does not say "repair" and leave the contents to the crew's mood on the day.

If the lifted shingles show a soft deck, that sheet is added to the list before it is covered. Covering rot with a new shingle is not a repair.

What you get

The failed piece removed, the deck under it looked at, new material tied into the surrounding field, and the nails from that work picked up. Matching a faded shingle is not always possible, and the scope says when the new piece will read as newer than the field around it. We would rather say that than pretend a three-year-old slope and a new bundle are the same color.

What the visit is for

The visit confirms the piece you described and checks whether the field around it can accept a repair. You get the list before the shingles come up. If the walk shows the field is done, we stop and talk about replacement instead of starting a repair you would be redoing.

How long a repair takes

A boot, a short flashing run, or a small lifted area is often finished the same day once the scope is approved. A valley that has to be opened back to sound shingles takes longer, and the scope says how far back it goes. Weather still governs the day. Wet deck does not get a new piece nailed to it.

Why we will talk you out of the wrong repair

A repair on a roof that needs a tear-off wastes the money and leaves the leak path. The person who writes the scope is supposed to say so. You keep that person as the one to call if the repaired piece needs a second look, because the rest of the company is not a different desk.

Describe the piece that failed

A boot, a valley, a lifted run, or a wall flashing. Call and we will say whether that piece can be repaired on its own.
